Last updated: September 1, 2026

Overview

Yakima Valley Events (yakimavalley.events) is a free local events calendar for the Yakima Valley. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

If you have questions, contact us at hello@yakimavalley.events. For site rules and republishing, see our Terms of Use.

Information We Collect

Information you provide. If you subscribe to the Weekender newsletter, we store the email address you submit so we can send that digest. If you email us from our Add Event page (or elsewhere) to submit an event, we receive whatever you include in that message, such as your email address, event details, links, or images.

Usage data. On our live site, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are viewed, which events are opened from listings, navigation and filter usage, share and outbound source clicks, and newsletter and Add Event interest. Analytics does not load in local development.

Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting, infrastructure, and email providers may process standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, and request time) to deliver the site, send the Weekender, and protect it from abuse.

Homepage map. The decorative map on our homepage loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap, an open-source mapping project. When you load the homepage, your browser requests those tiles from their servers. According to OpenFreeMap's privacy policy, they do not store IP addresses in regular server logs and do not use cookies for tracking. They may collect anonymized server logs (browser type, referring page, timestamps, operating system). They may temporarily log IP addresses for up to 30 days during security incidents. They may also use Cloudflare as a content delivery network.

How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

  • Publish and maintain the public events calendar
  • Send the Weekender newsletter to subscribers
  • Respond to event submissions and other email requests
  • Improve the site based on aggregate usage patterns
  • Protect the site from spam, abuse, and technical problems

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies

On our live site, Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure site traffic. You can clear site data in your browser settings at any time.

Learn more about how Google handles data at Google's Privacy Policy.

How We Share Information

We share information only as needed to run the site:

  • Service providers that host the website, operate backend services, store newsletter subscriptions, deliver email, and provide other infrastructure needed to run the site
  • Google, on our live site, to provide aggregated usage statistics through Google Analytics
  • OpenFreeMap, when you load the homepage map, to deliver map tiles (see above)
  • Legal requirements, if we are required to disclose information by law or to protect the rights and safety of visitors

How Long We Keep Information

Newsletter subscription emails are kept while you remain subscribed. Email you send us about events is kept as long as needed to publish your event and handle follow-up, or until you ask us to delete it. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics settings.

Your Choices

You can:

  • Use the unsubscribe link in any Weekender email, or open /unsubscribe with that link's token, to leave the list
  • Email hello@yakimavalley.events to ask about or request deletion of information tied to your email
  • Clear cookies in your browser settings

Residents of Washington and other states may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. Contact us and we will respond in a reasonable timeframe.

Children

Yakima Valley Events is a general-audience community calendar. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the site grows. We will revise the date at the top of this page when we make meaningful changes.
